June Potluck

Thank you to Bertie and Ron for hosting the June potluck! In June we welcomed five new members: Sandy and Joseph Aday, Rod Kreukemeier, Patricia Osorio and Shirley Donde. Thank you for coming. Our evening began with guest speaker, Beth Glasser, D.C. The topic of discussion was VoiceBio: Let Your Voice Tell You What Your Body Knows. With the use of an incredible energetic assessment tool with a microphone, Dr. Beth records the patient’s voice and the tool measures the 12 keynote frequencies in the body corresponding to the 12 notes of the chromatic musical scale. Each note corresponds to a major organ in the body. The VoiceBio reveals what tonal frequencies are either heavy, overworked or not working. An assessment of the heavy and weak areas of a VIBEprint empowers people to take back control of their own energetic health, holistically through proper nutrition, homeopathy, herbs, lifestyle changes or other therapies of choice. For more information call Dr. Beth @ 714-437-5816. Thank you for coming.

Congratulations to Bertie. Your Split Pea Soup was voted the June Potluck Favorite!

July Potluck

Thank you to Carol and Mike for hosting the June potluck! 37 people attended - our biggest potluck ever! We’re so happy that you could accommodate us. Our evening began with “Hands on Shiatsu” with Pamela. She began with breathing exercises which helped us to relax, remove tension and focus our minds on the delicious macro meal. We welcomed seven new members - Laurie Hill, Ildiko Szabo, Katrina & Shelby (friends of Tuyen), Gloria Cardenas and Barbara Mark & Stu. Welcome!

Congratulations to Pamela. Your Seitan Stroganoff was voted the July Potluck Favorite!

Macro in Maui

In July, my husband & I enjoyed a beautiful trip to Maui, one of our favorite vacation spots! However, this trip was going to be different. I was now macrobiotic! Where would I shop for macro food? Where would I go to eat? With the help of Sandy Bernstein and her friend, Sharon living in Kauai, I was able to discover some delicious restaurants and a few natural food stores. I’ve listed some “must visit” stores should you plan a trip to Maui. Mahalo Sandy! Also, I would recommend renting a condo so that you have access to a fully stocked kitchen. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to find a condo that’s equipped with a gas stove.

Grocery Stores:

Down to Earth 305 Dairy Rd in Kahului (10 min. from the airport.  808-572-7910. Organic produce, fresh deli and bakery. Best selection by far.

Farmers Market in Honokowai on Lower Honoapiilani Road. Very small but quaint. Organic produce, organic grains, tempeh, seitan and even organic pineapples!

Foodland in the Old Lahaina Center 808-661-0975
Large store with a natural food section. They carry Food for Life, French Meadow Breads, Amy's frozen products as well as many other Natural Food Brands.

Restaurants:

If you go to Hana, which is usually a not-to-be-missed day trip, you will pass a town called Paia.

Mana Natural Foods, 49 Baldwin Ave., Paia

Veg-Out, 810 Kokomo Rd, Haiku 808-575-5320.

It's about an hour away from Lahaina.

June 24 & 25 th Extravaganza

We had an exciting two days with Denny and Susan Waxman. Friday evening began with Denny’s Lecture “Whole Grains & Vegetables - The Smart Way to Health.” Denny emphasized that Grains and Vegetables are the KEY to Cardio Vascular Health. Grains help to regulate blood sugar, reduce cholesterol and reduce obesity.

Saturday, we enjoyed Susan’s two cooking classes
Simple & Elaborate Whole Grains & Vegetables

Susan not only shared some delicious recipes but we learned how to prepare a variety of dishes from beginning to end, including shopping, cutting, cooking, presentation and serving. We had a great time! View photos

Until the next month….Best of Health to you,

Francene Kelley
