August Potluck

Thank you to Maureen and Dave for hosting the August potluck!  We enjoyed our meal outside on the lovely patio.  The weather was just perfect!  We welcomed six newcomers: Wolfgang and Irmgard Stork (friends of Daryl Indes), Victoria Emerson, Cindy Gotts, Diana Robinson & Joe Gleason (friends of Jill Guin) Thank you for coming.  We enjoyed your company.

Congratulations to Jill.  Your Lemon Cream Pie was voted the August Potluck Favorite!  Jill sampled this pie at the Kushi Institute and recreated this luscious dessert for us.  We savored every bite!

“The Future of Food” Film

On August 26, Ginny and Frank Cusenza attended the “The Future of Food” film at Native Foods in Costa Mesa by Deborah Koons Garcia courtesy of The Organic Consumers Association.   The film offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade.

From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply.

Ginny remarked, “The situation of our inability to know that the foods we are eating are healthy is appalling.  It's unbelievable that multinational corporations can dictate what is grown and by whom.  According to the film there is very little support from our politicians and government agencies and officials to allow consumers to make an informed decision about what they are eating.  The film indicated that the decisions from the various agencies and corporations are based on financial gain, not on public health and free choice.”

Thank you Ginny!
